Men's Health

Poor pelvic health is more typically associated with women, but anyone can be impacted including men.

Current UK evidence indicates that around 11% of men across different age groups face pelvic floor and incontinence issues, while 1 in 3 men over the age of 65 experience incontinence. Notably up to 70% of men may experience urinary incontinence following prostate surgery and erectile dysfunction is incredibly common affecting 58.2% of all men. The most vulnerable group experiencing erectile dysfunction are those between the age of 25 and 34 impacting on 74.6% of young men.

Due to stigma, many men may not report pelvic health issues, leading to underestimation of the true nature and extent of the issue.

Poor pelvic health in men can manifest as a range of symptoms including:

  • Urinary incontinence, frequency and urgency.
  • Difficulty or pain emptying the bladder.
  • Pain or burning sensation when passing urine.
  • Bowel issues such as incontinence, constipation, pain, pressure or incomplete voiding.
  • Chronic pelvic pain including lower back, hips or groin or muscle spasms.
  • A sensation of heaviness or bulging in the pelvic area.
  • Pain in the scrotum, testicles or penis.
  • Sexual dysfunction including:
  • Erectile dysfunction.
  • Reduced sexual sensation or difficulty reaching orgasm.
  • Premature or painful ejaculation.
  • Pain during sex.
  • Prostatitis –  inflammation of the prostate gland, which can cause pain, urinary issues, and sexual dysfunction.

Ask for help...

Many men suffer in silence and those who do seek help experience lengthy NHS waiting lists, only to have the same pelvic physiotherapy, regardless of their underlying symptoms and individual needs. Treatment can be ineffective, meaning individuals suffer for a long period of time, and feel like they can never be helped.

Aurasana seeks to help those who want discrete, professional and clinical support and advice considering your holistic health needs.
